Dr Jane Walker is chosen for the Alison Creed Award 2025
Dr Jane Walker is a researcher, consultation-liaison psychiatrist, and leadership coach.
Her research over the last 20 years has focused on improving the psychiatric and psychological care of patients with severe medical illnesses. She has conducted a number of large systematic reviews and epidemiological studies, but she is particularly known for her clinical trials. Her work includes a trial of psychological treatment for patients with functional neurological symptoms, the SMaRT Oncology trials of collaborative care for patients with cancer and depression, and The HOME Study multicentre trial of proactive consultation-liaison psychiatry for older medical inpatients.
Jane is expert in the use of problem-solving therapy and behavioural activation for patients with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, and she trains and supervises other clinicians in these therapies.
She also coaches clinicians, researchers and managers in both academic and healthcare settings. She enables those leading teams for the first time to gain confidence, deal with difficult situations, and prioritise competing responsibilities. She also works with senior leaders, such as those in executive and director-level positions, to help them manage their complex and highly demanding roles.
Dr Jane Walker will give a masterclass and will be interviewed about her life and work by Wolfgang Söllner at the EAPM 2025 Conference in Munich.
