First EURONET-SOMA summer school in 2019

From June, 15th to 18th 2019, the first EURONET-SOMA summer school will open up the space in Allersmaborg, Ezinge (Netherlands) in cooperation with the EAPM for discussing the concept, research questions and interdisciplinary perspectives on persistent somatic symptoms (PSS). PSS, including diagnoses such as somatic symptom disorder, functional somatic syndromes or medically unexplained symptoms, pose significant challenges for patients, practitioners and the health care systems. The EURONET-SOMA summer school will give participants the unique chance to learn from established researchers in the field of persistent somatic symptom and to dive into intense discussion with international colleagues from diverse scientific backgrounds.

The program will include sessions on the conceptual models of PSS, diagnostics and treatment options, enriched with a philosophical approach and research methods. A special focus will be set on debating and on communication with media. The social programme starts with sightseeing in Groningen and offers further evening activities, such as a barbeque and pub quiz. The summer school precedes the EAPM congress 2019, taking place in Rotterdam from June 19th to 22nd.

Responsible for the organisation and conduct of the EURONET-SOMA summer school are Prof. Dr. Judith Rosmalen (Groningen, Netherlands), Dr. Tim olde Hartman (Nijmegen, Netherlands), and Prof. Dr. med. Dipl.-Psych. Bernd Löwe (Hamburg, Germany).
